Liberals: Wikipedia not biased, Conservapedia a joke - 02/24/07

Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum has started an alternative to Wikipedia called Conservapedia. Needless to say, the usual "liberal" suspects are having a great deal of (what passes to them as) fun (link, link, link,

Doh: Los Angeles February 24 illegal immigration march canceled - 02/14/07

The Los Angeles Police Commission has denied a permit for the planned illegal immigration march which was to take place in L.A. on February 24. The LAPC president says it has nothing to do with politics, only with resources: the Chinese New Year parade will be held on that day, and they filed for their permit a week before the illegal immigration supporters did. The main organizer is Juan Jose Gutierrez from Full Rights for Immigrants and other groups.

AVWatch: Villaraigosa offers bread, circuses, and... free wireless - 02/13/07

According to the press release here, Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa - a former leader of the racial separatist group MEChA - has announced that the City of Los Angeles will have free, citywide wireless internet by the year 2009. The city has a massive illegal alien population and a somewhat associated very large crime problem, but apparently those problems have already been solved so now it's time to move on to the more important stuff.

AVWatch: will facts stick in Villaraigosa's Wikipedia entry? - 02/08/07

As a test designed to show how unreliable Wikipedia is, I added some long-missing facts to the WP entry for Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Then, someone else came along and junked the paragraph I added up a bit.

How not to criticize Wikipedia - 02/05/07

Dave Pierre offers "'Lib-pedia'? Anti-Conservative Bias Rampant At Wikipedia" (newsbusters . org/node/10615). He's definitely right about that, but I don't think he fully groks that the only way to correct that bias is for conservatives to be more tenacious than those on the other side who currently spend a lot of time making sure WP's articles match their ideology. Lacking that, the only thing to do is to point out to anyone who relies on WP or who advocates relying on WP that it's completely unreliable.

AVWatch: let's see how long facts stay in Villaraigosa's Wikipedia entry - 01/26/07

Wikipedia is completely unreliable not just because of the possibility that an entry contains errors or biased statements. The more pernicious aspect of its unreliability is missing information. Statements of fact in an entry can be verified, but unless a visitor is familiar with the subject, they won't be able to figure out what the entry isn't telling them about the subject. A case in point is the entry on Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (tinyurl.com/33tyxc).

AVWatch: does Villaraigosa really support immigration "reform" or just open borders? - 01/25/07

As discussed yesterday in regards to Deepak Bhargava of Center for Community Change, many advocates of "comprehensive immigration reform" don't seem to be completely on the up-and-up. No big surprise there.

Mayday/May 1, 2007: another illegal immigration boycott - 01/07/07

Mark it on your calendars, because illegal aliens and their supporters will supposedly be holding yet another mass walkout/boycott/march on May 1 of this year. And, there's supposedly going to be a planning meeting on February 3 and 4 at Loyola Marymount Law School in Los Angeles. The specific target of the boycott is Walmart.

Endorsement: Bill Richardson for President! (immigration speech) - 12/07/06

Bill Richardson is the Democratic Party's best hope to regain the presidency in 2008 and, in much the same way that this site endorsed Phil Angelides to be the Democrat to challenge Arnold Schwarzenegger, this site is also endorsing Bill Richardson ("BR") to be the Democratic nominee to take on whoever the Republicans nominate. Furthermore, we also suggest that BR choose Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as his running mate.

AVWatch: Villaraigosa lied, exaggerated about his past? - 11/22/06

Tony Castro of the L.A. Daily News (who seems to have a few skeletons in his closet) offers a long look at Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's psychological makeup and his mythogizing of his past.

AVWatch: Villaraigosa to veto firefighter $2.7 million settlement - 11/20/06

Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa plans to veto the $2.7 million settlement that was to go to black firefighter Tennie Pierce, who claimed racial discrimination after other firemen played a prank on him that resulted in him eating two spoonfuls of dog food. Pierce's nickname was "the Big Dog", and he had taken part in several other pranks against others. The settlement offer was "negotiated" by L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, and subsequently approved by the L.A.

Juan Jose Gutierrez, ANSWER, Party for Socialism and Liberation, and NBC News - 11/15/06

Juan Jose Gutierrez is the director of Latino Movement USA, and NBC News featured him as a spokesman for the Hispanic community last month. A week before then, he was a featured speaker at a public forum sponsored by the "Party for Socialism and Liberation". The flyer for that is to the right, and a description of the event is here. Note that the other featured speaker was Karina Garcia, the Political Chair of the Chicano Caucus at Columbia University (columbia.edu/cu/chicanocaucus). Did NBC News know about this? Perhaps they did, but they were convinced to run the segment without...

AVWatch: Villaraigosa first former MEChA leader to make big leagues - 11/10/06

Duke Helfand of the Los Angeles Times offers a hagiography of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in "Mayor to reap spoils of election victories". He has a vision "of an eco-friendly metropolis with less traffic, more affordable housing, new trees and perhaps a subway to the sea." And, Aztlan! Except, that's not mentioned. It acknowledges one of the reasons AV might have avoided endorsing Phil Angelides until late: Meanwhile, Gov.

Arnold Schwarzenegger goes to Mexico after Mexican-American vote, cheap labor - 11/10/06

The day after the (U.S.) midterm election, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger flew to Mexico to discuss topics such as immigration. The article by Kate Folmar of the MediaNews Sacramento Bureau is a strange beast, at times mocking the governator, using inappropriate language (Arnold's "post-election high"; his trip to China was a "tonic for his special election hangover", etc.), spouting talking points, and offering innuendo.

Tucson Citizen endorses former MEChA member Raul Grijalva - 10/20/06

The Tucson Citizen has endorsed U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva in his reelection bid for Arizona's Congressional District 7. He's running against Ron Drake (Republican) and Joe Cobb (Libertarian). Grijalva is not just a former MEChA member, he's proud of his membership in that group. MEChA wants to "liberate" "Aztlan" (the supposed homeland of the Aztecs, which just happens to coincide with the U.S. southwest and parts of Mexico). And, of course, he's a Democrat.

Griffith Park Observatory re-opening tonight (only for "special people") - 10/17/06

Los Angeles' famous Griffith Park Observatory has been closed for renovations for a few years. However, it's re-opening tonight... but only for "special people". This dispatch filed by our Roving Bike News Team: I drove up Hillhurst behind a very, very slow older tour bus with Wyoming plates. It was apparently too wide for the road, and had to even drive partway on the center median, destroying a large portion of the grass surface.

Democrats vs. assimilation - 10/06/06

Yesterday, Arnold Schwarzenegger issued yet another "controversial" statement, this one about Mexican immigrants assimilating. I had two initial thoughts: a) I'm not carrying Arnold's water anymore, and b) few could quibble with his pro-American comments that are similar to ones stated by leading academics.

The National Hispanic Media Coalition - 09/16/06

Los Angeles' Democratic mayor Antonio Villaraigosa recently "declared war" on KFI's John & Ken at a gala held by the National Hispanic Media Coalition. Here's some background on that group. The NHMC - together with MALDEF and many other far-left groups - is a member of the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission's Media Image Coalition (lahumanrelations.org/programs/mic/members.htm), and this is their blurb about them (lahumanrelations.org/programs/mic/MediaImageMembersDetail.htm): The [NHMC]'s goals are 1) to improve the image of Hispanic-Americans as portrayed by the media and 2)...

AVWatch: Villaraigosa "declares war" on KFI's John & Ken - 09/16/06

Los Angeles' Democratic mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, in a true statesmanly move, has sharply criticized KFI hosts John & Ken for their opposition to illegal immigration. He made the remarks at yesterday's National Hispanic Media Coalition "Impact Awards" luncheon. KTLA showed the tape of his tantrum to John & Ken, and the latter compared it to a "declaration of war" on them. From the TV news report (tinyurl.com/m5v67) here are just some of the Mayor's comments: Let me just take a moment, with the cameras rolling... John and Ken... two people who get on the radio every day... who share...

The Save Our State group held an anti-illegal immigration protest in Maywood, California earlier today. "Census Shows Growth of Immigrants" - 08/15/06

From this: The number of immigrants living in American households rose 16 percent over the last five years, fueled largely by recent arrivals from Mexico, according to fresh data released by the Census Bureau. And increasingly, immigrants are bypassing the traditional gateway states like California and New York

Reid, Durbin concede in Mexican elections; Villaraigosa now mayor; Cedillo, Nunez reelected - 07/02/06

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Hard fought races to become actual Mexican Senators ended in defeat earlier today for Sens. Harry Reid (D-NV) and Dick Durbin (D-IL). They had been on the ballot in Guerrero and Oaxaca, respectively. Because of U.S. rules and regulations, they are allowed to run for office in foreign countries.

Clinton, Rove to speak before National Council of La Raza (The Race) - 07/01/06

The National Council of La Raza ("National Council of The Race"), a far-left, Ford Foundation-sponsored racial power group, will be holding its annual meeting at the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 8-11.

Rob "Meathead" Reiner's Soviet Union-style preschool initiative fails - 06/06/06

Rob Reiner's attempt to put 4-year-olds in preschools - which would end up being state-directed and most likely mandatory - has failed ("Rob Reiner Says Campaign Raised Awareness").

Vicente Fox to visit colonies, meet with Alta California legislators - 05/23/06

Vicente Fox of Mexico is starting a whirlwind tour of the U.S. today which will conclude on Friday. The apparent goal of the tour is to help immigration "reform". However, as with the illegal alien marches, he will end up helping the American side.

"Day without Illegal Alien" not so bad - 05/01/06

I drove across Hollywood in record time. An intersection that's usually backed up a block or two was only backed up a half a block... I'm sure that the great majority of legal residents of Los Angeles would gladly pay an extra 10 cents for lettuce just to enjoy such light traffic on a daily basis. Plus, think of all the money that was saved by cars not having to idle at stops... As my part in the anti-boycott, I bought a water pump and an O2 sensor (~$130) and paid a couple bills... When's the next boycott? UPDATE: How long before L.A.

AVWatch: patriotism is the last refuge of Antonio Villaraigosa - 04/30/06

Antonio Villaraigosa, mayor of Los Angeles (Alta California), is swiftly backing away from the coming anti-illegal immigration backlash. As previously noted, he'll be out of town on Monday. And, while he supports the marches he wants students to stay in school. His latest pronouncements are that those foreign citizens who are marching in our streets should carry American flags and that the National Anthem should be sung in Spanish. Just because those who are even more extreme than he will call him a "vendido" for those remarks, please don't be fooled.

AVWatch: Antonio Villaraigosa and the illegal immigration march/boycott - 04/29/06

Or: "Yo no soy marinero, soy capitan!" Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles' first Latino mayor in the modern era, will skip huge pro-immigration rallies planned for Monday to meet with pro football officials in Dallas, leaving organizers feeling like "a ship without a captain." Oscar Sanchez, an organizer of the Great American Boycott in Los Angeles, said the mayor's office previously told the grou

May Day illegal immigration march/boycott: the supporters - 04/28/06

Who supports the May 1 illegal immigration boycott and/or the marches on that day? Let's keep track of them in this post. The Democrats in the California state senate support both the march and the boycott. UPDATES --5/2/06:

Links between the Democratic Party and the Mexican government - 04/22/06

Many Democratic politicians and pundits supported the recent illegal immigration marches, and some Democratic politicians appeared at some of the rallies or even helped organize some of them. And, some other organizers of the rallies have various kinds of links to the government of Mexico. While that's not enough to claim that the Democratic Party has direct links to the Mexican government, they are clearly part of the same network. And, that should be disturbing to the millions of more moderate members of that party. Here are the current known links:

Reconquista introduction, video - 04/17/06

The WashTimes offers an overview in "Mexican aliens seek to retake 'stolen' land" that even Kevin Drum (washingtonmonthly. com/archives/individual/2006_04/008581.php) could understand: La reconquista, a radical movement calling for Mexico to "reconquer" America's Southwest, has stepped out of the shadows at recent immigration-reform protests nationwide as marchers held signs saying, "Uncle Sam Stole Our Land!" and waved Mexico's flag. Even as organizers urged marchers to display U.S. flags, the theme of reclaiming "stolen" land remained strong. One popular banner read: "If you think I'm...

AVWatch: 500-to-1 against Villaraigosa's support of illegal immigration marches - 04/15/06

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, former MEChA leader Antonio Villaraigosa informs us about the response to his recent involvement in the illegal immigration marches: The letters and e-mails have been overwhelmingly negative, maybe 500 to 1, maybe a little more... But I think we're elected to do what's right, not necessarily what's popular. Yes, but 500 to 1?

"Immigration marches": what the MSM sees and doesn't see - 04/12/06

Today's foreign citizens marching in our streets roundup, Part 2 - 04/10/06

AVWatch: Villaraigosa supports illegal immigration, Cardinal Mahoney - 03/02/06

"Mayor Reconquista", aka Antonio Villaraigosa, supports Cardinal Roger Mahoney's call to disobey HR 4437 if it passes. Of course, both of them are lying or misinformed regarding the effects of that bill, but I guess the fact that it might affect his power base has clouded his judgement.

HotelWorkersRising.org meets Antonio Villaraigosa - 02/16/06

HotelWorkersRising.org is a "progressive" organization featuring losing VP candidate John Edwards and involving the UNITE HERE union. They seek to improve the lot of low-wage earning hotel workers.

AVWatch: Villaraigosa to give Democrat's Spanish-language SOTU response - 01/25/06

Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are proud to announced that Antonio Villaraigosa, the Los Angeles Mayor and former member of MEChA, will offer the Spanish-language response to Bush's State of the Union address on Tuesday Jan 31. The former president of the UCLA chapter of the racial separatist group has previously admitted that his Spanish is a bit rusty. Seeing as he was born here and no doubt English was his first language and all. No doubt Villaraigosa will write the speech in English and have someone translate it, assuming he writes it himself at all.
