Doug Jones helps Roy Moore by opposing Trump Wall in an idiotic way

Per Fox News [1]:

Alabama Democratic Senate nominee Doug Jones says it’s “absurd” for the campaign of GOP opponent Roy Moore to characterize him as an “ultra-liberal.”

“That’s pretty absurd,” Jones told Fox News’ Peter Doocy on Saturday at a fish fry in Birmingham. “You know, that’s their only hope. I mean look, they’re in desperation mode right now.”

“Our opponent -- who is an ultra-liberal, who was an Obama delegate, who is for full-term abortions, who is for more gun restrictions, who is for transgender bathrooms, who is for transgender [people] in the military -- is against everything we in Alabama believe and stand for,” Kayla Moore said.

[Jones says he isn't so]

...Asked if he supports the building of a wall on the border with Mexico, Jones said Saturday: “No, I do not. I think it’s too expensive.”

“I don’t think we need to be spending $20 billion dollars,” Jones said, citing an estimate cost for the wall. “I want to put it on healthcare, I want to get tax cuts for the middle class.”

Anyone capable of fulfilling the duties of a U.S. Senator would know saying such things just sets you up for failure. In fact, Breitbart News takes full advantage of Jones' inability to think in "‘It’s Too Expensive:’ Alabama Democrat Doug Jones Comes Out Against Trump’s Border Wall" [2]:

...Jones supposed concerns of the cost of the border wall fail to mention the annual cost of illegal immigration that, while benefitting multinational corporations and the wealthy, upper-class, has been a detriment to America’s working and middle-classes...

Because Jones obviously can't figure things out, he stepped right into that. Most in Alabama are going to believe Breitbart, not Jones. Jones wasn't smart enough to avoid giving Roy Moore a gift.

That doesn't in any way mean that Trump Wall is a smart idea [3]. In fact, Trump Wall would fail miserably sooner or later: either it would never be fully funded, it would be blocked by the courts as Trump's other plans have been, or it would be torn down by a future Congress or a future President. The smart alternative that would last is to make smart arguments that undercut illegal immigration enablers. Trump Wall is a dumb alternative that at most would hold those enablers at bay for a year or two.

If Jones truly opposed illegal immigration and were capable of coming up with smart plans, he would have supported something that will work long-term. Instead, he just opposed Trump Wall using stock Democratic Party talking points that fool few people.

[3] Or that Roy Moore is much of an alternative; he didn't even know what the anti-American DREAM Act is.
