Mexico tightens border security

Mexico has deployed soldiers to the border. And, this time they're on Mexico's side of the border.

Specifically, they're at bridges between Brownsville and Laredo. The Border Patrol wasn't informed of this new move and they only noticed it because much less traffic was coming through.

I think this can be considered to be two things: a) a preposterous attempt to show that that corrupt country is doing something about drug trafficking, and b) an attempt to show the economic power of legal visitors from Mexico.

The Mexicans may be trying to reduce "incidents" at the border (e.g., large drug shipments) while the Senate debates an immigration bill this week.

Have you considered a D)?
How about D) a show of military force to make the USA backdown and blame America for provoking the culture of Mexico.

Hey, it worked for the radical Muslims. Riots by a few radicals and every country in the West apologises for the Danish cartoons. How about a few Mexican soldiers threatening our borders, its bound to work.

Maybe the thought of not getting the 350 million the US goverment promised them to help with the war on drugs had something to do with putting on this big show.

Or c) staging the troops where they can help drug and people smugglers across the border easier.

Based on recent events, I'd go with c.
