24%: Obama not born in U.S.; 6%: Hawaii is not a state (are they right?)

Tom Jensen of Public Policy Polling shows a keen lack of intellectual rigor in discussing a poll they did ("A deeper look at the birthers", link):

...62% of Americans think Obama was born here, while 24% think he was not and 14% are unsure.

10% of the country thinks that he was born in Indonesia, 7% think he was born in Kenya, and 1% think he was born in the Philippines.

That leaves 20%, which includes at least some people who correctly believe that Obama was born in Hawaii, but who don't consider Hawaii to be part of the United States. You read that right- 6% of poll respondents think that Hawaii is not part of the country and 4% are unsure.

Hawaii has been admitted into the union, however, as with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, some people think that the admission was invalid. A very simple search for is hawaii a state will bring up pages like this and this. From the first:

On November 23, 1993, President Clinton signed United States Public Law 103-150, which not only acknowledged the illegal actions committed by the United States in the overthrow of the legitimate government of Hawaii, but also that the Hawaiian people never surrendered their sovereignty.

For more on that, see (yes, I know): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apology_Resolution Earlier this year, the Supreme Court apparently ruled that open-ended language in 103-150 doesn't mean that Hawaii isn't a state. And, as far as I'm concerned, it's ours now. And, some of those polled might not be basing their choices on those issues. However, no doubt some are. And, this is yet another example of low-wattage Beltway establishment hacks smearing over this issue instead of pointing out things like the above.

it became a state in 1959 i remember that day when it became a state.

Greetings, No offense intended by my "conspiracy ruse" comment at Tom Jensen's Public Policy Polling blog. And please forgive me if you were offended. I am no BHO supporter, and an ardent critic of the Main Stream Media (any of my friends would split-a-gut in belly laughter if they heard someone actually accused me of being a BHO supporter). {8^) Having reviewed the Birth Certificate portion of your blog, it is evident we are on the same page on this matter. Seeking information, transparency, and truth is not a conspiracy in my book, however, as you have observed, the MSM is working overtime to paint all birthers as conspiracy nutjobs/wackos, while at the same time, fanning the flames and hyping the Birth Certificate matter at every opportunity to deceive more and more people with lies and misleading statements (propaganda). While you are to be applauded for your noble discrediting of the MSM at every turn, my concern is that at the height of this propaganda campaign by the MSM, after they have created a major furor and uproar . . . BHO will reveal his "authentic" birth certificate (it will be a forgery that looks authentic and near impossible to refute), which will immediately and swiftly suck all the oxygen away from the entire eligibility issue in general and forever. On the other hand, is it not notable that the MSM refuses to acknowledge or discuss the eligibility-Natural Born Citizen issue, no matter how much the MSM is discredited. And that's because the Natural Born Citizen matter is a LEGAL U.S. Constitutional matter which the liberal left knows they can not and will not win. Therefore, while the Natural Born Citizen information is right there in plain sight for all to see at BHO's fightthesmears.com, it is conveniently and purposefully buried beneath BHO's Certification of Live Birth. An evil and deliberate deception . . . the ruse. Bottom line . . . within the BHO eligibility drama, there are two central arguments: 1) the Legal U.S. Constitutional Natural Born Citizen matter based on Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5; and 2) what the MSM has labeled and continues to pedal as the "Birther Conspiracy," Birth Certificate argument. The MSM is pushing the "Birther Conspiracy" angle because painting Birthers as "conspiracy loons" and "conspiracy losers" distracts and destroys the eligiblity issue in general. And in my estimation, makes this the weaker argument. While your position to discredit the MSM for their lies and misleading statements, and thereby force the MSM to examine other arguments is noble, we disagree on the process and the outcome. Using the weaker argument (Birther Conspiracy) to get to the stronger argument (the Legal Constitutional-Natural Born Citizen question) doesn't work for me on matters of impact such as this. My preference in this eligibility matter is steadfast resolve, and go with the stronger argument. This appears to be the case just beneath the surface of where the general

. . . This appears to be the case just beneath the surface of where the general public goes about its daily business and mundane activities in total blissful and sometimes willful ignorance (just beneath the surface there is unnerving high drama going on daily if you know where to look on the internet, and as you perhaps know . . . it's real, serious, and deadly). The U.S. Constitution is the basis for the Rule of Law in this country. To forsake the Rule of Law and desecrate U.S. Constitution as BHO and his statist/socialist minions are doing is an absolute intolerable disgrace. The current U.S. economic quagmire is by design, and is unsustainable. We as a country, are headed for anarchy, chaos, rule by mob, and rule by the barrel of a gun. I am a die-hard Free Market-Free Enterprise, Christ-following Capitalist. I am staying that way, and I am prepared to fight and die for what I believe. What say you??
