White House immigration meeting of amnesty all-stars: Obama, McCain, Graham, Cornyn, Gutierrez

Yesterday, Barack Obama met with various members of Congress to discuss comprehensive immigration reform. His remarks are at [1], a list of attendees is at [2], and some quotes from attendees is at [3]. Nothing very important appears to have happened or been said. Note also that before the meeting, Rahm Emanuel said, "If the votes were there [for amnesty], you wouldn't need to have the meeting. You could go to a roll call".

As before, Obama stressed his commitment to "reform" (i.e., amnesty) and made questionable statements:

DHS is already in the process of cracking down on unscrupulous employers, and, in collaboration with the Department of Labor, working to protect those workers from exploitation.

There hasn't exactly been a rash of high-profile prosecutions of employers, and, while protecting workers from being exploited shouldn't be an issue, what's important is what happens afterwards: instead of deporting those illegal aliens, the Obama administration gave some of them work permits.

Obama also stressed that those amnestied would pay taxes; that talking point is rather recent but it's been picked up by several.

He also referred to the "overheated rhetoric and the occasional demagoguery on all sides around this issue". Maybe he was looking at Luis Gutierrez when he said that.

And, he gave a shout-out to a very special person, someone seated directly next to him:

I want to especially commend John McCain, who's with me today, because along with folks like Lindsey Graham, he has already paid a significant political cost for doing the right thing. I stand with him...

CIR, aka "amnesty," ain't gonna happen anytime soon, so the goons will be quite disappointed when nothing happens, as has been the case for eight years under Bush.

It isnt going to happen anytime soon if Congress and the House vote on it the way they are suppossed too......with "robust debate". But the way they do things now in Washington and even in California, is with limited debate or none at all. Just like they are doing at this very moment,[as of late Friday] with the Cap and Trade bullshit. WTF is with this president and his party? High Treason is the only answer

I think many in Congress are now afraid of this issue.

Obama and his thieves are in the process of stealing the country. They should all be kicked out and tried for treason. Just a bunch of Chicago thugs who lack one complete brain amongst them.

If they aren't afraid of this issue, eh, they should be. For years we had a low unemployment rate thrown in our faces when we objected to amnesty. The unemployment rate and the underemployment rate was always a lot higher that the MSM reported, but now even the liars in Congress and the compliant MSM can't get around the soaring unemployment/underemployment rates. And everybody knows several people who have been hit with financial problems and are hurting.

The public crashed the phones on the cap and trade bill and they passed it anyway...They represent their own special interests and no one else.

"Yes", cap and tax will be the death of this nation. it is now the law of the land, and soon obama will get his 100 million new monkeys to enforce this new Red idea of laws and when the system boys can't pay the money out to the monkeys the new jew will be you.
