Regarding amnesty, they will always attach some sort of conditions and/or penalties to make it seem like the aliens aren't getting a totally free pass. But in the end since they get to stay it's sort of like a bank robber who gets to keep the money. Perhaps also relevant is that they are self-selected, in violation of US law, which is supposed to do the selecting. And Americans should not be presented with such a fait accompli -- they have a right to not see their laws nullified in this way. And don't forget the resulting chain migration -- one estimate I saw said amnestying just the illegal Mexicans here could make an additional 20-30 million Mexicans eligible to come here over the following years.

It's a sad state of affairs that something so easily refuted has any prospects at all. '"Reform" supporters very rarely say anything new' Yeah, and it's not just a lack of new ideas--they usually use the exact same code words and phrases like 'out of the shadows'. 'inspired talking point designed to appeal to those who support our laws.' Also devious. Cynical. They should sponsor a contest: who can invent the most clever way to disguise our complete opposition to immigration law in a way that looks like we support it?

If 911 didn't make them control the borders, and disease didn't make them close the borders, and terrorism and the fear of a nuclear or anthrax attack doesn't make them close the borders, and the ongoing drug war and the thousands dead as a result doesn't make them close the borders ,and the gangs setting up shop in cities across the country to such an extent that Phoenix is now the 2nd largest kidnapping capitol of the world doesn't make them close the borders , then I think you can assume this country has been taken over by enemies of this country.

The first wave would be immediate family - spouse and kids. Next comes sick old parents and siblings (part 1). A bit later we get the spouse's sick old parents and siblings (part 2). Around the same time, we start geting the immediate families of the siblings (part 1) and then the immediate families of the siblings (part 2). Naturally the spouses of the siblings (part 1 & 2) are going to bring in THEIR sick old parents and siblings, who will then bring in THEIR immediate families and so on and so on and so on....... Now, sure, this won't happen overnight but it WILL happen. Keep in mind that once the initial no-longer-illegal-alien brings in the first sibling, this sibling can help him bring in the sick old parents and other siblings. Sort of a daisey-chain-migration-tag-team. Also bear in mind that not a single one of these people will be coming to the US for any reason other than that they are related to somebody here. And that the vast majority of them will have few job skills and so be a burden to the taxpayers. And that the taxpayers have zero say in this.

I left out one important point in my post above: The onslaught of Mexicans noted above will all have dual-citizenship.
