Tom Tancredo didn't say we should nuke Mecca

While it's become fact within the BushBot Blogosphere, he did not say we should nuke Mecca, only "bomb" it. Here's the transcript, here's an AP report, and here's America's cuddliest BushBot.

(This entry is here because Professor Bainbridge is making the mistake this post is designed to correct and there are no comments there so thus the trackback. PB is actually siding with TT rather than HH in this matter.)

This was ABVIOUSLY A SET UP, AS NO OTHER CONGRESSMEN HAVE BEEN ASKED THIS QUESTION. THEY ARE OUT FOR TANCREDOS BLOOD! THEY WANT TO TURN AMERICA INTO MEXICO NORTH....

THEY WILL NOT SUCCEED..!!!!!

First, let me state that I am sympathetic with TT and sentiments, and mildly perturbed that HH and others, whom I very much respect, are taking him to task for his remarks.

That said, I believe that it can be reasonably inferred by TT's remark that the "ultimate threat" of a nuclear attack on the US by the Islamists deserves an "ultimate response" is a NUCLEAR response, not simply a surgical, non-nuclear strike on Mecca.

How would Hewitt "moderately" respond to an Islamist nuclear strike against the US homeland? Why launch new wars against Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia! He must think the supply of cannon fodder is inexhaustible.

I like this Hewitt quote cited by Bainbridge "...it is clearly contrary to Christian teachings to threaten retaliation against non-combatants even in a just war." Doesn't Hewitt know that the US and Britain had a deliberate policy of incinerating non-combatant civilians in the last two years of World War Two? THe British euphemism was "dehousing" the population.

So the obedient republicans are to be servile lemmings to this new smear offensive from the moderate right. There is nothing wrong with Bush's America worth speaking of, or nothing that can't be fixed by trying to censor immigration restrictionism? We're not racists, please don't kill us, cry the lemmings, as their fearless leader starts the cheer; we want mexicans, millions of mexicans. Smear Tancredo, the party line now goes out; he said we have to nuke mecca, didn't he? It doesn't matter if he didn't anyway, not if he is an immigration restrictionist. Do these docile republicans realize that appeasing the mexicans and the third world will precipitate a major new round of attacks against them, by those whom they appease?
