Yale senior opposes Lou Dobbs

Evelyn Shih - a senior at Yale - has some strong words for CNN's Lou Dobbs in "Lou Dobbs Fuels American Immigration Paranoia":
...In between the dry segments of news and peppered rhetoric, Lou Dobbs peddles a latent racist agenda that is an easy trap in today's global economy...
Thanks for your input Evelyn, and good luck at Yale Global!

Lou is not racist. In fact he's trying to fight racists. Know what La Raza means? It means "the race". If I started an organization called "the race" I'd rightfully be branded a racist. Also, realize part of their mission is to return the area that belonged to Mexico more than 100 years ago. These people say that I'm not an American because I'm white. I don't care how my ancestors aquired this land, I was born here, I AM AN AMERICAN!

I never saw Lou or the minutemen say anything racist. A lot of these la raza types lump illegal and legal immigration together, so if someone is against ILLEGAL immigration, they're automatically racist. I fully support the efforts of Mr. Dobbs and the Minutemen.

Lou Dobbs is flat wrong. He shouldve stayed with financial stuff, but then CNN fn had to declare super-duper bankruptcy. Now Dobbs comments like Bill OReilly? Oh... all the problems of the world are because of Mexicans immigrants, they are costing Trillions of dollars that you in the middle class have to pay.

Schools close, hospitals close, all because of Mexicans. What? Im not racist, says Dobbs, say that again and Ill slap you!

Dobbs doesnt belong on tv without someone countering his idiotic pov. His poor OReilly imitation just shows that Dobbs is bigoted, misinformed, biased and promotes some agenda.

The minutemen have shown how stupid, racist and bone headed ignorant people can be in 2005.

Thanks, lonewacko =)

"i personally could care less about the racial make-up of america."

Perhaps you need to travel a little more to see what life is like in the average majority Hispanic, Black, or Asian nation. In case you have time or budget problems, you're in luck: given the current trend, it's probably enough to visit an Hispanic country, and for that East LA will do.

this is the same garbage the LA Times Ed board spews out: that free trade and outsourcing are inevitable, borders are useless and illegal immigration is neccessary for us, and that anything who doesn't think so is a "nativist", "isolationist", or racist.

the thing that these neo-cons, neo-liberals and libertarians don't get is that the majority of the world takes pride in AND wants: culture, nationality, borders, soveriegnty. ask any of these immigrants/workers what they think about erasing their home countries borders, and they'd be outraged.

i personally could care less about the racial make-up of america.

for every Evelyn, there's 5 immigrants and 10 americans who want immigration to be legal, think outsourcing is bad, and want fair trade instead of "free" trade.

Ralph gets the Alfred E Newman award.

Using one's program to make a point is not evidence of paranoia at all. However, sounding the doomsday alarm with no evidence to support a forthcoming doomsday (especially when others have sounded the same alarm for centuries and the adverse effects they warned of never came to pass) is pretty doggone paranoid if I'm not being too subtle

Well, I guess immigrants coming here do so because they see it as in their own self interest.

And if an American like Dobbs disagrees, that is he does not see this flood of immigrants as in either his or the country's best interest, why is using his program to make this point necessarily evidence of "paranoia"?

As for a "racist agenda", I personally want to continue to live in a majority white country, and going by projections it looks like the only way to ensure this is to drastically reduce immigration. I feel this way because I see the demographic heritage of America as worth preserving, and also because I've seen enough of the on-the-ground reality. And if believing this is racist, or favoring a cutback in immigration to achieve this makes me a racist, then so be it. Given what's at stake, being called names seems a small price to pay.

A good commentary on the popular Lou Dobbs paranoia hour.
