Janet Napolitano blocks Sheriff Joe Arpaio's funding for immigration enforcement

From this:
Much of the money for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's immigration-enforcement efforts lately has poured out of a special pool of state money.

But New Times has learned that Governor Janet Napolitano's turning off the spigot.

In what appears to be a prelude to a major fight between Napolitano and Arpaio, the governor issued an executive order last week to develop a new task force--headed up by the state Department of Public Safety--to find and arrest tens of thousands of felons with outstanding warrants.

And, according to a letter from DPS Director Roger Vanderpool to Arpaio outlining the new effort, the task force will be funded with the money that Arpaio isn't getting anymore...
UPDATE: There are details here, and from this:
Arpaio said the governor, along with officials in Phoenix and Maricopa County, "conspired to take away ... money that the state Legislature and the (county) Board of Supervisors approved specifically to enforce human smuggling laws, money my office needs to fight illegal immigration."

He said Napolitano's decision to create the felony warrant task force is "a cover-up for taking away grant money to fight illegal immigration," calling the move "despicable.''
From this:
Napolitano spokeswoman Jeanine L'Ecuyer denied that the Democratic governor was trying to cut into efforts to stop illegal immigration.

"It couldn't be further from the truth," L'Ecuyer said.
In fact, I am shocked - shocked! - that anyone would accuse Napolitano of trying to block immigration enforcement.

The Governor and Arpaio a mexican's in all things wants this to happen, do you understand that Arpaio was set-up to make him look like a real American? and by the way Napolitano can fire him at any time. I think that the So Called Sheriff for years now his been targeting young white people who use drugs, but no real drug dealers from mexico or the third world appear to be in his political mexican control jail system many deaths all white inside his jail system have happened this guy is not your friend or a person of this country he is your enemy and loves mexico and hates you just like your insane government. Arpaio like many others are setting you up, understand one fact the Governor can fire him at any time so if it was not a set-up why isn't he looking for a job?

Somebody from Arizona needs to explain this better: _In what appears to be a prelude to a major fight between Napolitano and Arpaio, the governor issued an executive order last week to develop a new task force--headed up by the state Department of Public Safety--to find and arrest tens of thousands of felons with outstanding warrants._ 40,000 felon arrest warrants sounds like a huge number. How many of these are so old they will never be served? How many have never been served because they involved illegal aliens with false ids? Did the Governor have a point? Or was it an attempt to side track the Sheriff by sending him on a ridiculous snipe hunt and a game of whack a mole instead of allowing him to do more solid and proven law enforcement?

As a liberal Democrat this reeks of Dukakis 1988 and Cuomo 1992. Back then both allowed a bills that would have got tough on crime by funding more prisons, tougher sentances for drug trafficing and violent offenders, paying for more police and training, to sit on their desks unsigned for months. They tried to say they were being fiscally responsible. When what they were really doing was pandering to far left wing groups. Polls were showing that the public would have overwhelming supported tax dollars and more of them going to law and order enforcement. Both "Dookie" and Cuomo got crushed in elections. The Gov. here is being too cute. If she and the sherif needed 5 times the amount of money she knows could raise it in a heartbeat. All she would have to do is make a bipartisan effort and stop pandering to leftwing latinos and open borders democrats. Her arguments are thread bare and do not begin to pass the sniff test.

This also flys in the face of proven "Broken Windows" law enforcement practices. Spending too many resources on criminals who most likely skipped town or have long moved on to new aliases is silly. Preventing serious violent crimes before they happen by taking back the streets from those who flagrantly violate less serious non-violent laws works.

A 'Broken Windows" approach may also prove to be a better way of actually finding those who have outstanding warrents in the first place through basic every day police work.

Napolitano has a long record of pandering to illegals...she endorsed Obama who wants to recruit the entire country of Mexico to vote for him!! See the correlation...keep em coming and complain about voter ID's like the NYTimes did today because illegals are in the shadows.. doncha ya know....Yeah right...White Americans are the ones in the shadows and this DYKE wants to push Americans out of their own country!
