President Bush, Howard Dean aligned on immigration

Despite Howard Dean trying to pretend there's a difference on immigration policy between the leaderships of the GOP and of the Democratic party, what they want - and even how they want it - are very similar. Speaking before a DNC meeting in Phoenix, Dr. Gov. Howard Dean M.D.:
Saying Bush had used race and gay rights to divide the electorate, Dean said, "In 2006, it's going to be immigration; that's who he's going to scapegoat next." He said Democrats must favor tougher enforcement of existing immigration laws and provide tighter border security, but said a balanced immigration policy would provide a way to give many of the 11 million illegal immigrants a path to legal status.
In other words, he wants a massive amnesty for those who are here now. A position like that makes it very difficult to refuse amnesty for any other illegal aliens who come here. And, of course, untold millions more illegal aliens will come here just to be a part of those future amnesties. (Kennedy-McCain could result in 36.5 million new residents.) How many dozens of millions of new (temporarily) illegal aliens do the Democrats want? And, isn't that position identical to the one supported by the GOP?

Needless to say, the American public from all sides except the far left and the corrupt right want many few illegal aliens, not millions more.

Why is Dr. Dean unable to see this? Why is he unable to see that you can't support massive amnesties while expecting to keep illegal immigration in check? Is Dr. Dean unable to think things through?

Note also that Dean is complaining about Bush being a divider, at the same time as he's trying to portray those who oppose illegal immigration as "scapegoaters".

And, Dean can't even get his facts straight:
But Dean confused President Bush's proposals for a guest worker program with criticism from other Republicans who believe even a temporary visa for undocumented immigrants would reward illegal behavior.

Dean suggested Bush wants to round up and deport all illegal immigrants. In truth, the Bush plan would allow a guestworker program. But immigrants would have to return to their home countries when their work visas expire after six years.
I don't exactly know why Dean would be mistaken, but I have an idea: he's an out-of-control, irresponsible dolt.

The DNC passed three resolutions about immigration. The first supported the massive amnesty described above. The second condemns Colorado's version of Arizona's Proposition 200. And, the third condemned the Minuteman Project.

Obviously, the position of the DNC is closer to that of far-left race groups than the vast majority of Democrats. Perhaps they'll wake up much as those on the other side have.
